Biography
Independent Canadian country artist and songwriter, Makayla Charleen, currently resides in the heart of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. Although she was born and now continues to live in British Columbia, Makayla spent the majority of her childhood growing up in Calgary, Alberta. Some of Makayla’s earliest memories of country music consist of listening to her parent’s CDs of Jonny Cash and The Chicks, as well as attending the Calgary Stampede.
Since the release of her debut single in 2023, Makayla Charleen’s music has evolved into a blend of contemporary country and modern southern rock, with subtle bluesy undertones. Influenced by artist such as Jon Pardi, Ella Langley, Cody Johnson and Lainey Wilson, Makayla’s heartfelt and soulful vocal delivery will have listeners singing along and burning up a sawdust dance floor. This boot scootin’ cowgirl is taking hold of the country music scene.
Makayla Charleen’s single, Marlboro Might, highlighted a significant milestone when it was added to SiriusXM’s Top of the Country Radio in Canada. Marlboro Might was also included to Apple Music’s New In Country editorial playlist.
With previous regional and interprovincial festival experience, including Monashee Music Festival and the Boots ‘N Boats Singer Songwriter Festival in British Columbia, as well as the Cochrane Classic Bull Riding Event in Alberta, Makayla is now preparing for another fulfilling year of performances including the 2025 Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair in British Columbia.
With the anticipated release of her upcoming single, Makayla is eagerly preparing further songs and projects to share with her growing audience this year.
